About Intermission
Intermission helps people step away from their screens. It is designed and developed by Alex Greene under the name Kaleidoscope.
Why Intermission exists
A reminder only works when you respect it. If it is too easy to ignore, it disappears into the background. If it interrupts a meeting or something important, you turn it off.
Intermission is built around that tension. It can place a calm break across every display so looking away is easier than dismissing another notification. At the same time, it stays out of the way during meetings, videos, presentations, screen sharing, and full-screen work. The goal is not more productivity machinery. It is a small, dependable Mac utility that helps one healthy habit stick.
Formerly Breaks for Eyes
The app began under the name Breaks for Eyes. Alex acquired the project, brought it to the Mac App Store as Intermission in 2018, and continued developing it as an independent product. If you remember Breaks for Eyes, you are in the right place: Intermission is the same app and the continuation of that history.
People who purchased Intermission or Breaks for Eyes through the Mac App Store keep their purchase. The relaunch is an update, not a reset for the people who supported the app before.

Alex Greene is a multidisciplinary product designer and engineer based in San Francisco. His work spans product design, user research, and native software. He likes products that feel human, a little whimsical, and uncomplicated.
Kaleidoscope is the independent studio name behind Intermission. There is no growth team, data brokerage, or subscription machine behind the app. Product questions and support email go directly to the person designing and building it.
